The 20 gold for the jackal initially floored me on the expense, but I'm okay with it for what it gives back. It's a one-time unlock too, if that helps at all. 250 for the griffon is a challenge and I shall overcome it in the next week or so (back to work in the daytimes and all that).
you will need jackal to get some masteries in pof and travel in lws4 maps using jackal portals. ie. when u want to do dragonfall meta you will see how important to get reach some locations. i use jackal most its evading and speed is just what i need. easiest thing is getting pof masteries, most of them just commune. you can lvl by farming yellow mobs with kill streak and exp boosters. or just

Each mount have 4 mastery skills. The first is a boost to the attack you can make while unmounting. The second is a kind of boost. It is the third that matters (makes the bunny & rampors jumps more powerful, makes the skimmer hoover higher and gives the jackal access to the sand teleporters). The 4th give the mounts bonus to all mounts.
Skyscale is the best utility in the game. So yes, worth it. Ever since getting skyscale, I more or less stopped using all the other mounts except in niche scenarios. It’s almost too valuable, as it allows you to achieve the benefits of all other mounts - height, distance, flying, good speed.
